What to Bring

YOUR LAPTOP!!!
Please bring your laptop to all four days of the workshop. If you absolutely cannot bring a laptop, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements for you to use one on loan.

Workshop Project FREE Wiki

This is the wiki that Anja Groten and André Fincato of the Amsterdam-based collective Hackers & Designers designed and developed for the Workshop Project FREE workshops! Read about it here. You/We will be posting your work to the wiki regularly throughout the workshop.

Log in information

  • If you participated in FREE 2017, your user name and password remain the same. Please let us know if you have any problems logging in.
  • If you are a new participant, your user name is your first name (lowercase) and your password is your first and last name (no spaces, lowercase. There are two exceptions to this: Daniel McCafferty, your user name is danielm; Mary Banas, your user name is maryb. Please let us know if you have any problems loggin in. Please peruse the Archive on the wiki if you would like to see examples of how it was used last year.

FREE 2018 Materials and Resources

We have begun to populate the Materials and Resources on the wiki here. Please feel free to add to it prior to the workshop!

Using the Wiki/Wiki Syntax

If you are uncomfortable jumping into using the Wiki for any reason do not worry DO NOT WORRY! We will be going over how to use it on the first day of the workshop. Please note that as Yasmin, Randy and I are beginning to update the wiki for FREE 2018 some pages may be unavailable, etc for the next couple weeks.

Sign In

Sign in is from 1:30–2pm on Thursday, July 12th in the courtyard of the Graduate Center, on the San Francisco campus of California College of The Arts (CCA). The Graduate Center is the smaller building across the street (Hooper) from the larger main building. Everyone will need to sign in with security so please text us if you are running late.

Travel + Accommodations

The closest airports to CCA are San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oakland International Airport (OAK). The Graduate Center on the San Francisco campus of California College of The Arts is located at 184 Hooper Street, San Francisco, CA 94107

Because the workshop is free, it is BYO-EVERYTHING. We will facilitate shared snacks during the workshop and unhosted communal lunches and dinners during and after the workshop. However, everyone is welcome to plan their meals however and wherever they please.
